Iranian Sunnis, with a population of at least 25% of the total Iranian population, equivalent to 23 to 25 million people, spread across most border provinces and nationalities and ethnic groups, form the largest religious population in Iran after the Shiites. Unfortunately, due to the official Shia religion in Iran, especially since the Constitutional Revolution, and the fact that kings must have the official religion and promote it, and the constitution must be under the supervision of five Shia clerics, this large population has been marginalized in government, economy, and society. After the 1979 revolution, this discrimination and sectarianism took on a new and violent color, and in addition to severe deprivation in military and civil positions, they faced execution, assassination, massacre, imprisonment, torture, migration, and accusations of being affiliated with foreigners.
