In a lecture and article titled “Why the Republican System is More Suitable for the Future of Iran,” I will attempt to demonstrate that, in addition to the descriptive aspect of political philosophy, which addresses the reasons behind the current situation, its prescriptive aspect looks to the future in order to show the desired state. This is the “how” and prescriptive nature of political philosophy that shows us why we seek another political order. The republic is the system that embodies both human and modern world aspects within itself. On one hand, it considers the highest position of government to be derived from the will and choice of the people, and on the other hand, it gives everyone access to this position. These two aspects distinguish the republican system from monarchy, caliphate, and the guardianship of the jurist. It is in a republican regime that diversity and plurality are valued, and the country will not be under the rule of a particular family (monarchy) or a specific class (guardianship of the jurist). The republic also aligns precisely with Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In addition to the above, every institution and structure has its own specific patterns, norms, and roles, which it reconstructs. The institutions of monarchy and caliphate present authoritarian models, and the patterns of these two systems have always been monarchs and powerful rulers who have turned tolerant people into terrifying tyrants. Several thousand years of monarchical, caliphate, and guardianship-based authoritarian systems simply lead to the reproduction of dictatorship and absolute despotism, an element that is absent in the republican system.
