دکتر ادواردو وتره از اکتبر ۲۰۰۶ نایب رئیس انجمن بین‌المللی مسئولین مبارزه با فساد (IAACA) بوده است. وی عضو هیئت مدیره آکادمی بین‌المللی ضد فساد (IACA) است و در سال ۲۰۱۶ به عنوان رئیس آن منصوب شد و همچنین به عنوان یکی از اعضای بنیان‌گذار ابتکار آکادمیک ضد فساد دفتر مقابله با مواد مخدر و جرم سازمان ملل (ACAD) در طراحی و توسعه برنامه‌های آموزشی و دوره‌های آموزشی مربوطه مشارکت داشته است.

وی در دوره‌های مختلف به عنوان افسر تحقیقاتی در موسسه تحقیقات جرم و عدالت سازمان ملل متحد (رم، ۱۹۶۹ – ۱۹۷۵)، به عنوان افسر امور اجتماعی در دپارتمان امور اقتصادی و اجتماعی سازمان ملل متحد (نیویورک و وین، ۱۹۷۶ – ۱۹۸۴)، و به عنوان افسر ارشد برنامه در صندوق سازمان ملل برای کنترل سوء مصرف مواد مخدر (وین، ۱۹۸۴ – ۱۹۸۷) فعالیت کرده است. وی از سال ۱۹۸۷ تا ۱۹۹۷ برنامه پیشگیری از جرم و عدالت کیفری سازمان ملل متحد در دفتر سازمان ملل متحد در وین (UNOV) را هدایت کرده و به عنوان نخستین مدیر مرکز پیشگیری از جرم بین‌المللی سازمان ملل از سال ۱۹۹۷ تا ۲۰۰۲ و از سال ۲۰۰۳ تا ۲۰۰۵ به عنوان مدیر بخش امور معاهدات دفتر مقابله با مواد مخدر و جرم سازمان ملل متحد (UNODC) خدمت کرده است.

وی همچنین به عنوان دبیر اجرایی هشتمین، نهمین و یازدهمین کنگره پیشگیری از جرم و عدالت کیفری سازمان ملل، که به ترتیب در هاوانا (۱۹۹۰)، قاهره (۱۹۹۵) و بانکوک (۲۰۰۵) برگزار شده‌اند، خدمت کرده است. در این مسئولیت‌ها وی نه تنها مسئول نظارت بر تمامی آماده‌سازی‌ها و اسناد مربوط به مجمع عمومی، شورای اقتصادی و اجتماعی، کمیسیون پیشگیری از جرم و عدالت کیفری و کمیسیون مواد مخدر بوده است، بلکه مسئول هدایت خدمات‌دهی به این نهادها و اجرای توصیه‌های آنها از جمله توسعه کنوانسیون سازمان ملل متحد در برابر جرم سازمان یافته فراملی، با سه پروتکل آن، و کنوانسیون سازمان ملل متحد در برابر فساد بوده است.

Dr. E. Vetere has been Vice President of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA). Member of the Board of Governors of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), in 2016 became its Chairman and, as one of the Founding Members of the UNODC Anti-Corruption Academic Initiative (ACAD), has contributed to the design and development of relevant educational and training curricula.

Having worked as a Research Officer at the UN Crime and Justice Research Institute (Rome, 1969 – ۱۹۷۵), as Social Affairs Officer with the UN Department of International Economic and Social Affairs (New York and Vienna, 1976 – ۱۹۸۴), and as Senior Programme Officer with the UN Fund for Drug Abuse Control (Vienna, 1984 – ۱۹۸۷), he has headed from 1987 to 1997 the UN Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme in the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), appointed as the first Director of the United Nations International Crime Prevention Centre from 1997 to 2002 and, from 2003 to 2005, as Director of the Division for Treaty Affairs of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). He also served as Executive Secretary of the Eight, Ninth and Eleventh UN Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Congresses, held respectively in Havana (1990), Cairo (1995) and Bangkok (2005). In such capacities he had the overall responsibility not only to overview all the preparations, with related relevant documentation, for the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, but also to direct the servicing of those bodies, as well as to implement their recommendations, including the development of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, with its three Protocols, and the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
